Valentin Grigore who granted me permission to use his photograph is the founder of SARM (Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy). Their 2008 project was an Intercontinental Astro-ecological Verse Tournament celebrating the centenary of the first Romanian astronomical society.

The rules were to compose one-line astropoems with maximum 20 syllables, adorned by celestial images as ecologic arguments.

Tallin

TALLIN

Tallinn welcomes tourists;
we are greeted at the pier head
given a free map and picture postcard.

In the New Town
department store windows
hide away their wares,
behind doors of glass and steel.
.
At the handicraft market
a Delboy-lookalike
sells us dolls.

Up Viru's ancient cobbles,
past money-changers and McDonald’s
crowds flock to the Town Hall Square;
jostle for bargain souvenirs
from numerous stalls.

Step away from the crowds;
turn a corner into the fifteenth century --
houses with dirty white-washed walls,
windows with wooden shutters
and three hundred year old paint.

There is peace on the periphery
of humming busy-ness.

When we leave on the evening tide
waves of Estonian enigmas break.

Paignton Rainbow lost haiku

My records show that I composed three haiku in Paignton on 9th March 2008 but I've not been able to find the texts.

The first lines were:

under the rainbow
harbourside puddles
huddled close

I have, however, found a photo of a rainbow.
